CoreWeave's Distressed Debt Rattles The AI Trade

The story

CoreWeave bonds slipped into distressed territory, raising fresh doubts about debt-financed AI infrastructure bets industry-wide.

CoreWeave's bonds fell into distressed debt territory last week, meaning investors now demand more than 1,000 basis points of extra yield over government bonds to hold them, The Verge reports. The slide came after public scrutiny from investors including Chamath Palihapitiya.

CoreWeave is a bellwether for the leveraged GPU-cloud model underpinning much of the AI buildout, and its wobble raises questions about the health of similar debt-fueled data center bets across the sector.

Why it matters

Credit stress at a leading neocloud is an early warning for every company financing data centers with leverage. Leadership teams should stress-test vendor and capital-partner risk now, before a credit event forces the issue.
